Siz bir şey yapmadan Google Play’in bana gösterdikleri

Aruna’yı Google Play’den kurduğunuz için Google, Play Console’da bana bazı bilgiler gösterir. Bunları Aruna değil Google toplar ve hiçbirinde not içeriği yoktur.

Aruna’nın dışında kalanlar

Kendiniz doğrulayın

Yazdıklarıma güvenmek zorunda değilsiniz; Android’in ve Google Play’in kendi ekranlarından kontrol edebilirsiniz.

  4. Uçak modu. Uçak modunu açın ve Wi-Fi’nin de kapalı olduğundan emin olun; bazı cihazlarda uçak modu Wi-Fi’yi açık bırakır. Aruna’nın her özelliği çalışmaya devam eder: yazmak, görsel ve çizim eklemek, ses kaydetmek, PDF oluşturmak ve yedek almak.

Uygulamanın sakladığı her şey, dış klasöre yazdığı yedek kopyaları dışında, cihazınızın uygulamaya ayrılmış özel alanındadır.

Güvenlik: PIN kurduysanız yalnızca tuzlu özeti saklanır, PIN’in kendisi değil.

Cihazda koruma

Canlı veritabanı uygulama tarafından ayrıca şifrelenmez. Koruma şuradan gelir: Android’in cihaz şifrelemesi, Android’in uygulama kum havuzu (başka uygulamalar Aruna’nın dosyalarına erişemez) ve isterseniz kurduğunuz uygulama kilidi.

Android’in bulut yedeği uygulamada kapalıdır: verileriniz Google Drive yedeğine dâhil edilmez.

Uygulama INTERNET izni istemez.

Summary

Aruna is free. It has no ads, paid features, subscriptions or in-app purchases. Aruna does not ask for an account, does not connect to a server and does not ask for the internet permission.

What you write, your images and your audio recordings stay on your device. They leave your device only in ways you choose: when you share or save a backup, when you choose an external folder for backups, when you share or copy something, and when you use Android’s transfer while moving to a new device. Automatic backups stay inside your device; if you chose an external folder, an encrypted copy of each one is also written there.

I cannot see your entries. Of your entries, I only see what you send me yourself, for example an entry or a screenshot you send to show me a problem. This applies only to Aruna. The keyboard you type with is a separate app, and what it learns from your typing depends on its own rules (see “What I can and cannot see” below).

This policy applies to the Aruna Android app (package com.hb4sri.aruna).

What I can and cannot see

I develop Aruna and distribute it through Google Play. Below, I list in three groups what I can and cannot see as the developer. Each item also says whether it depends on something you do and whether it contains the content of your entries.

What I cannot see

What I see only if you send it

What Google Play shows me without you doing anything

Because you installed Aruna from Google Play, Google shows me some information in the Play Console. Google collects it, not Aruna, and none of it contains the content of your entries.

Outside Aruna

Check it yourself

You don’t have to take my word for any of this; you can check it on Android’s and Google Play’s own screens. Menu names can differ between manufacturers; the names below come from a Samsung device and from Google’s own Android 14 interface.

  1. The permission list on your device. Open Aruna under Settings > Apps (on some devices, first “See all apps”), go to Permissions and choose “All permissions” from the three dots in the top right corner. On Android 13 and above you will see six rows: show notifications, record audio, run at startup, use fingerprint hardware, control vibration and use biometric hardware. The list of an app with the internet permission has a “have full network access” row; Aruna’s does not.
  2. The permission list on Google Play. On Aruna’s Google Play page, open “About this app” and tap the app permissions row at the bottom. The same permissions appear. According to Google, this list comes from technical information in the app’s package, not from my declaration. If an update adds a new permission, it shows up here.
  3. Data usage. On Aruna’s screen under Settings > Apps, the data row shows the data Aruna has used. In Google’s interface the “Mobile data & Wi-Fi” row counts mobile data and Wi-Fi together; on a Samsung the “Mobile data” row counts mobile data only. For Aruna it says that no data has been used. Switches on the screen that opens from that row, such as the one for background data, appear for every app; an app without the internet permission cannot connect to the network even when they are on.
  4. Airplane mode. Turn on airplane mode and make sure Wi-Fi is off too; on some devices airplane mode leaves Wi-Fi on. Every feature of Aruna keeps working: writing, adding images and drawings, recording audio, creating a PDF and taking a backup.
  5. The Data safety section and the labels on Google Play. The “Data safety” section on Aruna’s Play page says that no data is shared with third parties and that no data is collected. This section is my declaration to Google; Google Play presents it as what the developer says. The line in the same section saying that the app doesn’t provide a way to request data deletion means this: the app does not send your data to me, so there is no app data to ask me to delete; you delete the data on your device inside the app or by uninstalling it. Aruna’s Play page also has no label saying that the app contains ads or offers in-app purchases; Google Play shows such labels on an app’s page.

Who is responsible

I make Aruna on my own, as an independent developer; there is no company behind it. My developer name on Google Play is HB4sri. For questions and requests, you can write to me: support@hb4.aleeas.com

What is stored on your device

Everything the app stores, except the backup copies it writes to the external folder, lives in your device’s private storage reserved for the app. The database file, the media folders and My backups are there; other apps cannot reach them.

Your diary content: each entry’s title, body (with its formatting), the date and time the entry belongs to, the moment you actually wrote it (the two differ when you write for a past day), the last edit time, the mood mark if you left one, its favorite and locked state, and the deletion time if it is in the trash. The images and drawings you add to entries, audio recordings and their durations, and the tags you create with their colors. An image you have taken with the camera but not yet saved to an entry also waits here until you decide (“Image metadata”).

Your profile and settings: the name you give the app and, if you choose one, your profile image; theme, color, font and text size, language, notification and privacy preferences; the reminder text you write yourself, the names and colors you give to moods, the favorite colors you save for drawing, your recent searches, and the trash retention period.

Your backups: the My backups section of the Backup and restore page holds the automatic backups, the backups you take yourself and the safety backups taken before a restore. Each one is a copy of your diary at the moment it was taken: your entries (locked entries included), images, audio recordings, settings and profile image. My backups is in the app’s private storage, in a folder that Android leaves out of its own backup (Google Drive) and out of device-to-device transfer. Aruna does not additionally encrypt the backups there; they have the same protection as the live database (see “Protection on the device”). Copies written to the external folder, on the other hand, sit outside this storage, in the folder you choose (see “When data can leave your device”). Aruna also keeps brief records about the backups: each backup’s time, size, entry and media counts and the name you give it; when and where you last moved a backup out of Aruna (the name of the app you chose or of the place you saved to); the external folder’s address and name if you chose one; the times of automatic backups and of backup reminders; a summary that tells whether your diary has changed, from which no content can be read back; and a random marker that Aruna creates itself to tell whether these records came from another device (it is not a device ID).

Security: if you set a PIN, only its salted hash is stored, never the PIN itself. Your recovery key is stored encrypted with Android’s keystore; that key is bound to your device and never leaves it. If you choose to save your backup password, it too is stored encrypted with Android’s keystore, only on your device, and it is not included in backups.

Diagnostics: if the app hits an error, a technical record is added to a file kept on the device for diagnostics: the time, the app version, the error’s type, its message and a technical trace. The records have no field for your entries; at most 50 are kept, older ones are dropped, and nothing is sent anywhere on its own. An error’s message is filtered before it is written: the part that could carry data (for example, the content of an entry or a tag, or a file path) is dropped, and the message of an error Aruna does not recognize is not written at all. Records written by app versions from before this filter are also filtered when the app starts; at most the first line of their message is kept. You can still see inside the diagnostic file before you send it (see “When data can leave your device”).

Not stored: your email address, phone number, location, contacts, device ID or advertising ID. None of these are requested or kept. The exception is a location that comes inside an image: Aruna never writes it to the file it saves, but it stays in an image waiting to be saved to an entry and in the temporary copy the system hands to the app, for as long as described under “Image metadata”. The name you give the app is stored only on your device; where it goes when you share a PDF or move a backup out of Aruna is described under “When data can leave your device”.

Protection on the device

The live database is not additionally encrypted by the app. Protection comes from Android’s device encryption, Android’s app sandbox (other apps cannot reach Aruna’s files), and the app lock if you set one up.

The app lock opens with a PIN or your device’s biometrics and locks itself again after the delay you choose. While the app lock is on, on Android 13 and later the “recent apps” list does not show a preview of Aruna’s screen. You can also lock individual entries.

Your biometric data never reaches the app. Android verifies your fingerprint or face; Aruna only sees the “verified” or “not verified” result.

While the content of a locked entry is on screen, the app blocks screenshots, screen recording and the “recent apps” preview; this protection is on by default and can be turned off in settings. There is also a separate switch that protects the whole app, off by default.

Android’s cloud backup is disabled in the app: your data is not included in a Google Drive backup. When you move to a new device, however, the operating system’s device-to-device transfer may carry Aruna’s data on devices from some manufacturers; you and the operating system start that, not Aruna. In such a transfer your entries, media (including images waiting to be saved to an entry), settings and the PIN hash are carried over; the backups in My backups are not, because they sit in a folder that Android leaves out of this transfer. Your recovery key and your saved backup password are not carried over either, because they are bound to the old device’s keystore and cannot be read on the new one; you also choose the external folder again on the new device. Aruna notices the recovery key’s state when it starts and tells you; under Security and privacy, after confirming your identity, you create a new recovery key and your PIN stays the same. The reliable way to move your data yourself is a backup you share or save.

Ads, analytics and tracking

There are none. Aruna contains no ad network, no analytics, no crash telemetry and no cross-app tracking; your advertising ID is not read; no third-party data collection library is bundled in the app. Google Play’s crash reports come from Google, not from Aruna (see “What I can and cannot see”).

Fonts are embedded in the app and runtime font fetching is disabled. The app reads no personal data from your device. For appearance and scheduling it uses your system settings: display preferences such as language, light or dark theme, animation scales and reduced motion, the system color palette if you enable it, and your time zone so that reminders fire at the right hour. If you turn on Aruna’s developer options, a diagnostic screen also shows your device’s manufacturer and model; this is not stored or sent. For backups, it also reads the free space on your device and whether a screen lock is set up. None of these leave your device.

Permissions

The app does not request the INTERNET permission. Without it, the app cannot send any data over the network on its own.

Android uses two kinds of permissions. The app asks you for some of them when you first turn on the related feature; Android grants the others automatically at installation and never asks. All of them except the app’s own internal permission appear in the permission list (see “Check it yourself”).

The permissions it requests, and why:

Two more permissions in the package are added by the libraries in use: USE_FINGERPRINT (the biometric library, for older Android versions; granted at installation) and DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION, which starts with the app’s own name and is added by an Android support library to protect its own component from other apps; it does not appear in permission lists.

The audio library used to add a network state permission (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE); it has been removed from the app and is not in the package. So the app cannot even learn the device’s connection state.

Permissions that are not requested: internet, reading photos and video, storage, exact alarms, seeing all installed apps, media location, location, and the advertising ID.

So that the Backup and restore page can show which app you chose when you share a backup, Aruna tells Android that it may see the apps that can receive a backup file. This is not a permission, nor the permission to see all installed apps; you are not asked, and it does not appear in permission lists. Aruna does not use or store the list of these apps; it reads only the name of the app you choose, shows it on the page and keeps it in the record of your last backup outside Aruna.

No permission is asked to pick an image: the system’s picker opens and only the images you select reach the app. The system’s windows are likewise used to choose a backup file to restore, to save a backup and to choose the external folder; Aruna can reach only the file or folder you choose. When you want to take a photo, your device’s own camera app opens and the picture you take is returned to the app; because Aruna never accesses the camera directly, it does not ask for the camera permission either.

If you decline a permission, only that feature stops working; the rest of the app carries on.

Notifications

There are two kinds: the reminders you set, and the memory notification that brings back what you wrote on the same day in previous years. A reminder shows the text you wrote yourself or one of the app’s ready-made texts.

By default, the memory notification shows nothing from your entry: it carries a title such as “One year ago today” and a text such as “You have a memory from this day”. You can turn on showing a fragment of your entry in settings. If you do, Android’s lock screen setting decides whether that fragment appears on the lock screen: if your device has a screen lock and your lock screen is set to hide sensitive content, the fragment appears only after you unlock; if your lock screen shows the full content of notifications, the fragment appears on the lock screen too. The reminder text follows the same setting.

Locked entries never enter the memory notification under any condition, and they are not even counted in its “and N more” number. Turning the content setting on does not change this.

Notifications do not use the exact alarm permission; the system shows them at a suitable moment. They are produced inside your device and do not come from a server.

When data can leave your device

Your diary content leaves your device only in four ways, and you choose all of them. The app never sends anything on its own; if you turned on the external folder, it writes copies only to that folder.

1. Backup. Backups you take in Settings > Backup and restore and automatic backups are first kept in My backups, inside your device (see “What is stored on your device”), and they do not leave it unless you choose to. Automatic backup is on by default; you can turn it off or set it to once a week on the Backup and restore page. A backup leaves in three ways, and you choose each of them: Share sends the backup to the app you choose; Save opens the system’s save window and writes the file where you choose (a folder on your device or another place shown in that window); and if you turn on “Also copy to an external folder”, an encrypted copy of each automatic backup is written to the folder you choose. While the external folder is on, Aruna keeps the copies it wrote there in a rotation of 4 and deletes the older ones; it touches no other file. If you turn the external folder off, change it, or choose it again after access to it was lost, Aruna leaves the older copies there untouched. If the folder you choose belongs to a cloud app or another app syncs it, the copies leave from there under that app’s rules; likewise, when you use Save and pick another app’s location in the window, that app’s rules apply to the file.

With Share and Save, a backup carries everything by default. Your unlocked entries always go in; you can leave out your locked entries, images, audio recordings and app settings (including your name and profile image). If you set up a PIN in Aruna, your identity is verified when you tap Share or Save and when you turn on or change the external folder; it is not asked again for each copy written to the external folder. Protecting the backup with a password is the default choice: a key is derived from your password with 600,000 iterations and the file is encrypted piece by piece with AES-256; every piece is sealed, so a byte changed in the file is noticed when the file is opened. The file name is not encrypted: it contains “Aruna” and the backup’s type, date and time, and with Share and Save also the name you gave the backup, if any. You choose the password; if you choose to save it, Aruna keeps it only on your device (see “What is stored on your device”), and if you do not, it does not keep it. If you lose the password, the file cannot be opened. If you turn password protection off, the file is written as a plain ZIP and anyone who opens it can see what is inside. Copies going to the external folder are always full backups (your locked entries and settings included) and are encrypted with your saved backup password. Your security keys (the PIN hash and your recovery key) and your backup password are not included in the backup. A file that has left the app is yours; you decide where it goes.

2. Sharing. When you share an entry, an image, an audio recording or a PDF you created, the content goes to the app you pick. You start the share and you choose the destination. When you share an entry as text, the text contains the entry’s date, mood, tags, title and body; its images are attached as files. The PDF also contains the date, the mood and the tags; the audio recording itself does not go into the PDF, only its duration. If you have given the app a name, the top right corner of the PDF carries an ownership line such as “From Ayşe’s entries”, and the name is also written into the “author” field of the document’s properties. The PDF’s file name contains the entry’s title and date. If the “Hide mood” setting is on, the mood goes into neither the text nor the PDF. In the editor, when you select an entry’s title, the menu that opens also lets you send the selected text to another app (“Share” or an app on your device such as a translator).

3. Copying. When you select and copy an entry’s text, or tap a copy button in the app (a link, the recovery key, the diagnostic records, the support address), the text goes to your device’s clipboard; you decide where to paste it. The recovery key is written to the clipboard marked as sensitive content; Android 13 and above do not show it in the copy preview.

4. Device-to-device transfer. If you start Android’s transfer while moving to a new device, Aruna’s data may be carried to the new device on devices from some manufacturers (see “Protection on the device”).

Diagnostic file. It is not your diary, but it is a file that can leave your device, and it goes only if you want it to: when you choose to attach it while reporting a problem by email, or when you share or copy it from Settings > Help > Diagnostics. It contains the app’s version number and the error records (time, the error’s type and message, a technical trace); it has no field for your entries and contains none of your images, no device ID and no device model. Error messages are filtered before they are written (see “What is stored on your device”). You can see the whole file on the Diagnostics page before you send it.

Two actions that are not data exits. When you choose to write to me, your device’s email app opens with only the address, the subject and an empty template (if there is no email app, the share menu opens and my address is copied to the clipboard); you write and send the message yourself, and it is subject to the terms of the mail provider you use. When you tap a link you wrote in an entry, the app first shows which address will open and asks for your confirmation; the website and privacy policy links on the About page open directly. However a link is opened, the app hands the browser nothing but the address.

Image metadata

Personal metadata inside an image (location, capture date, camera and device information) does not go into the file Aruna saves, and it is not in the file you share either. How this is done depends on the image quality you choose in Settings > Storage. With Original, JPEG and PNG images are not re-encoded: Aruna removes that metadata from the file, and the technical information the image needs to display correctly (such as the orientation and the color profile) stays in it. Images you crop, your profile image and images in other formats are re-encoded with Original too; at the other quality levels every image is re-encoded. The metadata is never written to a re-encoded file.

An image you take with the camera for an entry waits in the app’s private storage, as the camera produced it and with its metadata, until you save it or delete it. If the app closes in the meantime, the image is kept and you are asked about it the next time you open the app. A waiting image does not go into Aruna’s backups, but a device-to-device transfer can carry it along with your other data (“Protection on the device”). In other cases (picking from your gallery, a profile image), the copy the system hands to the app is deleted as soon as the import is done; if the app closes in between, it is cleaned up on a later start. The original image in your gallery is not touched.

The mood mark

If you wish, you can leave a five-level mood mark on an entry. It is a personal mark: it has no medical purpose, cannot be used for diagnosis or treatment, and offers you no advice or program.

The “Hide mood” setting hides the mark throughout the app but does not delete the saved marks. The mood can leave your device when you share an entry (if that setting is off) and with a backup (see “When data can leave your device”).

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app; there is no time limit.

While the trash is on (the default), entries you delete go to the trash first and are permanently deleted after 30 days; you can change this period to 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days. If you turn the trash off, an entry you delete is permanently deleted right after you confirm. You can permanently delete items from the trash one by one or all at once. When an entry is permanently deleted, Aruna deletes its text from the database file too and overwrites the space it freed; it also removes the image, drawing and audio files attached to it from the app’s media folders (for the copies in backups, see below). Like any device, yours may keep old traces of deleted data in its storage for a while; other apps cannot reach these traces, and if your device is encrypted, they stay encrypted too.

A permanently deleted entry stays in backups taken earlier: in the automatic backups in My backups until new automatic backups replace them, in the safety backup taken before a restore until the next restore, and in backups you take yourself or name until you delete them. As your diary keeps changing, replacing the automatic backups takes up to about 2 months; because an automatic backup is taken only when your diary has changed, older backups stay in place longer if you write rarely or turn automatic backup off.

The deleted entry also stays in the copies in the external folder: while the external folder is on, until Aruna’s rotation replaces them; and if you turned the folder off, changed it, or chose it again after access to it was lost, in the older copies there until you delete them. It also stays in backups you shared or saved until you delete them. A copy of a backup you share stays in the app’s own storage for at least 24 hours so that the receiving app can read it, and is deleted the first time the app starts after that.

You can delete the backups in My backups one by one there, or all at once under Settings > Storage > Clear data > Backups; if you check “Also delete the backups” while permanently deleting all entries from Storage, the backups are deleted too. These deletions do not affect backups you shared or saved, or copies in the external folder.

Aruna does not delete image and audio files that are not attached to any entry (for example, leftovers from an interrupted operation) right away: it first holds them in a separate folder for at least 30 days. If they are attached to an entry again during that time (for example, by a restore), they return to their place; otherwise they are deleted. Images you have taken with the camera but not yet saved to an entry are an exception: deleting all entries or all images does not touch them either, and they stay until you decide (“Image metadata”).

Uninstalling the app deletes all data in Aruna’s own storage, including the backups in My backups. Copies in the external folder are not deleted (see below).

Backups you shared or saved are your files; uninstalling the app does not delete them, and you delete them from wherever they are. While the external folder is on, Aruna deletes the older copies there in its own rotation; the copies left there when you turn the external folder off or change it, or when you uninstall the app, are your files, and you delete them yourself too. Backup files that earlier versions wrote to the Downloads folder are your files too; those written to the app’s own external folder are deleted when you uninstall the app.

If you want something you sent me (an email, an entry, an image or a diagnostic file) or your address on the closed test list deleted, you can write to my support address.

Children

The app is for people aged 18 and over and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If the policy changes, the version number and effective date on this page are updated. If an update changes the app’s data behavior, the policy is updated in the same release and the change is also described in the release notes of that version.
